The Reluctant Duke of Kingsford

by Earnie W. Rowell

This fictional story takes place during the 1950’s and concerns a young man who is the son of a Duke. He studies at university to become an engineer, hoping to have a career in the engineering field. His life plan is interrupted by the death of his father, the sixth Duke of Kingsford, John Browning, Jr. Our protagonist is the son of John Jr. and the only male in the line of succession. Due to his desire to become an engineer, he feels reluctant and resentful that the ascension to his new position as Duke of Kingsford is out of his control.

The subtitle mentions ghosts and refers to the two ghosts who reside in the Browning Manor. The two represent a part of the family that has already passed on. Due to their unkindness and terrible attitudes toward friends and those who served them in life, they were cursed by the powers that be to haunt the Manor and to live out the rest of their existence in that place.
Ghostly Aunt Martha is instrumental in helping the new Duke to reconnect and fall in love with his childhood playmate, the daughter of their gardener. Thus, the subtitle prepares the reader to expect the love story that is coming.
